Experience Malibu like you’ve never experienced it before (or maybe even for the first time).

Join us, husband and wife team, Ted & Lauren McDonald, on our first annual hiking, yoga and cooking retreat in Malibu!

Malibu is not only where we live, but it’s also where we play. We will show you around our playground in the healthiest, most fun possible way, from our kitchen to our yoga studio to the trails! Every day, you will lace up your hiking shoes and hike in and around the thousands of acres that surround Malibu. When you’re not hiking, you’ll be practicing your best yoga pose as Ted leads you through a practice at our luxuriously serene and beautiful Malibu studio. You’ll step off your mat and become a master of healthy cuisine as Lauren, a former pastry chef turned healthy food junky, guides you through a daily cooking class. She will teach you everything she knows about how to nourish your body and your taste buds. Yes, healthy food can taste good, and it doesn’t have to be hard to prepare. Lauren will show you how.

If you’re looking to reconnect with yourself and/or a partner, connect with nature, jump start your way to a healthier you, or just take a break from it all, this is the retreat for you.

Space is limited so as to keep it intimate, so read on for retreat details and cost information, and sign up soon!

You will check in on Thursday July 27th. Ted will lead everyone through a relaxing yoga class, after which we will enjoy a welcome dinner. You’ll start your first full day on Friday July 28th with an hour long heart opening yoga practice led by Ted. All poses can be modified to account for your skill level, so beginners and advanced practitioners will all find something in this class.

Following your practice, you will feast on a heart-healthy, farm-to-table breakfast prepared by Lauren. From there, the group will be divided so that some will go hiking with Ted, and the others will stay in the kitchen with Lauren for a cooking lesson. Be prepared to learn how to make easy-to-prepare healthy meals for the entire family, healthy, heart-friendly desserts, and even learn some of Lauren’s insider tips from culinary school to make cooking easier and more efficient.

Following the morning activities, everyone will come back together for a deliciously nutritious lunch. The groups will switch activities for the afternoon.

The day will end with a good shower (you’re going to need it), some down time (perhaps a walk on the beach?) and a deliciously relaxing yin yoga practice. Once you’re totally blissed out and utterly spent, we will all sit down under the stars and twinkle lights, noshing on a meal of fresh ingredients that you all helped to prepare, while we discuss love, life, goals, dreams, sugar, spice and everything nice.

The day will end with a good shower. Saturday will be a repeat of Friday. Sunday will mark the end of our retreat, but not before getting in a morning yoga class and a final healthy breakfast. And ok, maybe a nice walk on the beach!

Former pastry chef turned certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and healthy chef, Lauren is now in the throes of her most challenging work to date: motherhood. When she’s not mushing up food for her daughter, her goal is to not only create recipes for healthy food that taste good, but also to help people create a recipe for their own, unique healthy life. One that’s designed specifically to suit their needs, wants, and of course, taste buds!

You can check out her recipes for both food and for life at Delectable You. There you will also find over ninety cooking videos for your viewing pleasure.

Lauren lives in Malibu, California with her adventurer husband, Ted. Together they own a yoga studio called 5 Point Yoga, as well as an Adventure Yoga Retreats company that takes people all over the world doing yoga and, well, having adventures! Think skiing, yoga, and P90X in Jackson Hole, Mammoth, and Chamonix, surfing and yoga in Costa Rica, hiking Machu Piccu in Peru — you know, that kind of thing.

When she’s not cooking, recipe testing, and living and breathing health and wellness (and now chasing after her infant), she’s writing about it all on her blog. She’s also been published on The Good Men Project, Babble, Beyond Yoga, and The Elephant Journal, and has been regularly writing for a health and wellness PR firm for the last three years.
